German government service for IT security makes the Firefox browser safest
The German government's Cyber Security Authority BSI has declared Firefox
the safest browser. Earlier, the agency tested all web browsers under its
security guidelines. The two ends failed in many things, including browser
transparency.
BSI conducted these experiments to suggest secure browsers
to government agencies and private companies. For their experiments, the agency
tested Firefox 68, Google Chrome 76, Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 and
Microsoft Edge 44.
BSI did not test Safari, Opera and Vivaldi. The agency
tested the browser in light of its guideline, which was reorganized in
September. These guidelines included features like TLS support, improved
security certification support, and sandboxing support.
In addition, browser updates need to be verified.
According to BSI,
Firefox is the only browser that meets all of the agency's requirements. Other
browsers lacked transparency and master password support. Chrome, Edge and
Internet Explorer also do not prevent telemetry collection or data collection
by companies. Edge and Internet Explorer also do not support custom browser
profiles and various configurations. For example, this browser does not have a
built-in update function and does not support critical security points like
SOP, SRI and CSP.
